CFD-Driven Shape Optimization of a Globe Valve: An Industrial Case
Presented in collaboration with:
Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in combination with shape optimization is a powerful tool for engineers and designers who want to optimize their product designs. In this webinar, our experts show you how FRIENDSHIP SYSTEMS and GEMÜ, leading companies in the fields of CFD-driven shape optimization and valves, respectively, leveraged the power of the cloud using SimScale to automate the design of a globe valve.
Head of Sales
Mattia is the Head of Sales at Friendship Systems and previously worked in the pre-sales and engineering teams. He has over 13 years of experience at Friendship Systems with a background in naval architecture.
Pre-Development Engineer
Marco Wissinger has worked as a development engineer at GEMÜ since 2019, focusing on CFD, the development of parametric CAD-models with CAESES, and the development and validation of simulations-based digital twins. He holds a Master in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in thermodynamics and fluid dynamics from Technical University Ilmenau, Germany.
“The SimScale platform has allowed us to develop and test scenarios including ventilation flow paths and understanding the dynamics between building fabric, airtightness, window natural ventilation design, and CO2 concentrations in various utilisation scenarios. The platform has given us quality, visually digestible output to inform decision-making and to compare results against our monitored data from our extensive post-occupancy studies. Working with SimScale has allowed us to study our learning spaces in a way we never have before. It has helped inform us on which design strategies may provide the biggest impact on performance. The visual outputs have real value, not just in terms of informing our decision-making, but potentially in communicating how classrooms can work and feel to clients and stakeholders.”
“Smartlouvre decided to recruit the expertise of SimScale because SimScale recognized the unique nature of the product and the fact that its performance was complex and challenging to simulate. SimScale’s expertise in the architecture, engineering, and construction sector meant they had a clear appreciation of all the challenges with simulating MicroLouvre performance criteria.”
SimScale is the world’s first cloud-native SaaS engineering simulation platform, giving engineers and designers immediate access to digital prototyping early in the design stage, throughout the entire R&D cycle, and across the entire enterprise. By providing instant access to a single fluid, thermal, and structural simulation tool built on the latest cloud computing technology, SimScale has moved high-fidelity physics simulation technology from a complex and cost-prohibitive desktop application to a user-friendly web application, accessible to any designer and engineer in the world.
