This case validates the thermal management inside an LED against the CFD and experimental results obtained in the conference paper, Thermal Analyses and Measurements of Low-Cost COP Package for High-Power LED, using the Conjugate Heat Transfer v2.0 analysis type in SimScale.

This simulation aims a determining whether the temperature of the board of 2x 160W COB Series UV LED is below the recommended temperature of 40C  with a water cooling block running with 0.2m/s inlet velocity.

Natural Convection Analysis of a Warehouse
1. Addresses the thermal comfort for a small office setup inside a warehouse

This project aims at evaluating how much air from the exhaust of a building AHU reaches the balconies and windows of its facade, as well as the other surrounding buildings.  Multiple wind direction scenarios are evaluated.
The CAD model includes a detailed, central building with balconies and windows, from where the exhaust air is released. The surrounding building are modeled as simple blocks.
This project uses incompressible analyses with passive scalars. The use of passive scalar is to model the concentration of air exhaust at any location.

Testing two configurations for ventilation in a warehouse. Several heat sources are placed throughout the area. The objective is to evaluate how the different configurations perform in terms of predicted mean vote (PMV) & predicted percentage of dissatisfied (PPD). A total of 20 people (represented as cylinders) were placed inside of the warehouse.

Convective heat transfer analysis were carried out, with the radiation formulation on. By placing two simple outlets on the ceiling of the warehouse, ventilation was greatly improved and all 20 people were within the -0.5 to 0.5 PMV range.

This project aims at investigating the impact of trees as porous media in mitigating the wind effects affecting pedestrian wind  comfort.
A comparison between two scenarios is undertaken, one using an urban model with no trees and one using trees. The areas of significant improvement in wind comfort and reduction in wind velocity are highlighted.

Internal flow and thermal analysis to understand the thermal comfort within a large atrium.  This is a typical example of the type of applications that our AEC customers perform on a regular basis.

The aim of this test case is to validate the following parameters of incompressible steady-state laminar fluid flow through a pipe.

Using convective heat transfer analysis to evaluate the cooling system of a data center. Different scenarios will be assessed.

Accurate wind pressure coefficients in thermal modelling software (building performance modelling) are critical to evaluating several key design outputs on buildings. The greatest impact of inaccurate wind pressure coefficients will be on the calculation of airflow through openings and thus ventilation, fresh air rates, cooling and overheating assessments can all be adversely affected. Most standard energy/thermal software has an oversimplified treatment of wind pressure which is also poorly understood and applied by software users. 

SimScale can quickly and accurately calculate transient wind flows and pressures around buildings and on building facades. These can be used as in input into energy/thermal software for more accurate building performance modelling.

Validating CO level during normal operations

An air flow bench is a device used for testing the internal aerodynamic qualities of an engine component and is used primarily for testing the intake and exhaust ports of cylinder heads of internal combustion engines, but the cost of flow bench is very high and thus, with the advent in computational simulation technology the port flow simulation can be conducted very easily to analyse the breathing capacity of the engine.

The undertray is known to be the most aerodynamically efficient downforce generating device. Theoretically, almost 50-60 percentage of the downforce generated by the aerodynamic package of an F1 car is generated by the undertray. Moreover, the undertray produces a very minimal amount of drag force owing to its reduced frontal area hence the lift(here downforce) to drag ratio is very high. Therefore, optimizing the undertray design is of great significance to the overall downforce generated by a car.
